It's On Us CincinnatiFrom around December to May of 2016, I created promotional graphics with UC's Student Government for It's On Us Cincinnati, a movement fighting against a stigmatized culture of sexual assault in college and throughout the city.
I used Adobe Illustrator to create graphics of easily recognizable landmarks in the city of Cincinnati. I also had a friend help me create the skyline. Before creating the graphics, I researched the city, statistics about sexual assault, and more information on the government level of the campaign (go Joe Biden!). I feel like the biggest takeaway for me was to never, blame the victim. I also learned the importance of intervening when necessary and how powerful design is when used as a tool to promote important topics to the community. |
Cincinnati, OhioSexual assaults are not just brutal beatings in an alleyway or forced interactions by strangers - sexual assault could be happening in your own home.
Learning more about sexual assault, the effects, and the damage it causes survivors helped me understand the truth behind the stigma. I've learned about setting boundaries, standing up for those who do not have a say, and spreading the word about this important campaign. |
