From the crowded canteens of North Spine to the spacious and sand-filled beaches in Langkawi, Malaysia, my study abroad experience was incredible. Studying Visual Communication at the Nanyang Technological University not only allowed me to experience different educational environments, it also opened my eyes to a new culture, one very different from my own. The food, courses, wildlife, and navigation all differed from that of my hometown and from Cincinnati, Ohio. As pictured above, one of my favorite aspects of studying abroad at NTU was joining the Symphonic Band and playing the oboe again. In high school in the States, I had played the oboe in band for about 7 years. It was like déjà vu! Reminding me of great memories from the past. I loved harmonizing with other talented musicians for practice each week to prepare for the final show Wanderlust. Not only did playing in the Symphonic Band hone new skills, I also feel that my photography and videography improved immensely. The professors at my college of Art, Design, and Media had fascinating career and educational pasts, bringing about new knowledge and information in their field. I even ran into a TA who knew a professor from UC in the CS department! From studying and teaching in places like MIT and Princeton, and even some professors working on animated short films in production (Shawn the Sheep!), I learned a lot about different techniques in art and in education. My Immersive Imagery professor had won an Emmy! I've learned so much from NTU and Singapore and I still cherish every memory!
